Summer in the Time of Unrest

The summer solstice represents the height of the summer. As the daylight hours slowly begin to shorten we find ourselves already halfway through the season which is meant to represent joy, love and relationship. And yet, with everything going on in the world and in our country, this summer feels very far from what it is meant to be. How are you embracing the energetics of the season amidst this unrest? It is vital to find ways to fill in our internal reserves so we have enough light to get through the colder and darker months of winter. While physical distancing remains important we can still find ways to be socially connected.

“When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.” — Dalai Lama

The endless protests that are happening outside my front door are encouraging and have lit a fire within me. I have spent many hours over the last few weeks reading books and watching documentaries to further educate myself on the history of racism in this country. Putting financial resources into organizations that help fuel the Black Lives Matter movement has given me another way to feel engaged with helping to create change. One of the core values of my practice is to provide compassionate care to individuals from all backgrounds with integrity and heartfelt connection. Taking care of our physical and mental well-being are important prerequisites to being able to expend energy towards this worthy fight. I look forward to the day that we can be back in the clinic together co-creating a healing space.
